My First Vlog

Just got a new computer so I decided to teach myself how to edit. Some friends have told me I should start a youtube channel so I figured I’d start a vlog of some sort. I don’t know if I’ll do more because this one took forever to edit but we shall see. Enjoy!

Baseball from the Luxury Suite

I got the chance to go to the SF Giants vs. Padres game last night and sit in a luxury suite! Unfortunately, I care exactly zero for baseball. I mean, yes it was exciting, especially when they win. And yes, it was very cool to see what it’s like in the luxury suite. However, I only went because my BFF LOVES the Giants and I knew she would want to go so I brought her as my guest.

The perks included the suite, free internet, shaded seats, Gucci parking, and free food…busted. You know I only went for the free food. They gave us mac n cheese, buffalo wings, Italian sandwiches, hot dogs, Cracker Jacks, popcorn, beer, soda, water, fresh fruit, and warm chocolate chip cookies. Yes, it was a bit heavenly. We also got to take some professional green screen pictures that were only available on the Suite level. Pretty awesome experience! Although, I am sad that I missed out on seeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt who had a show the same night at the Regency Ballroom. Oh well, next time, Joe!

100 Monkeys in NorCal

Went to see 100 Monkeys again on Tuesday. I had a blast! So glad they came back. It’s been over a year since I’ve seen them. They also did an in-store appearance at Best Buy in Dublin, CA in the afternoon so it was a perfect day. I picked up Blanca at BART and we headed over to Best Buy. Of course, our natural NKOTB instincts were to go super early but turns out, it wasn’t all that necessary because people didn’t gather around much earlier. There were about 30 people there, I’d say. Afterwards, they did a signing and I got my Liquid Zoo CD signed. I asked them if they would sign it if I brought my “Girlfriend” script over to Slim’s and they said yes. “Girlfriend” is a movie by Justin Lerner in which 100 Monkeys participates in the soundtrack, not to mention that Jackson & Jerad are both in the film as well.

We headed over to Chinatown where we got to grab some dim sum and then we went to Brainwash Cafe and just chilled. Then we went to Slim’s, parked the car, & just waited. The show was exactly the way I remembered them. Energetic, passionate, and jammin’. What bothered me though, was that they had 3 opening acts and they played until 10:20 PM. 100 Monkeys didn’t go on until 10:35 PM. If they were going to have all these opening acts, I think they should have had them start earlier, around 6ish. Because of this, 100 Monkeys performed until past midnight. And it was a weeknight!

The opening acts that performed were Sioux City Kid, Finish Ticket & Bleeding Horse Express. To be honest, I really felt they should have had the opening acts begin around 6:30 PM instead of 8 PM. The opening performed until 10:20 PM. As much as I respect that they are helping out these bands, I think they should have given the audience some type of notice that this was going to happen. It was a weeknight, BART only runs until midnight, and it was standing room only. If I had a seat, things might have been different. I guess I could have sat at the bar but I was close to the front and it was difficult to remove myself from my spot because I was in the front. Enough said.

The show was amazing though, as usual. I was able to record some of it. For some reason, I wasn’t able to take very good photos this time around. I guess I’m a little rusty on my photography. I did what I could and left it at that. Finish Ticket was really good, I have to say. I fell in love with their music after the first song. I even recorded one of their songs! They were that good. I think this band is going be big someday. I can see girls falling in love with these boys, they’re adorable! I wish all the best for them.

“Shy Water” – one of my favorites

“Aim High” – new song

“Invisible Monsters” – one of my favorites

So every 100 Monkeys show, they do one improv song where the audience gets to pick the title of the song. So you can say anything & they might pick it. I could say “Christmas presents suck” or “Tupperware is for losers” or whatever & they might pick it. Then they improv on a tune & Jackson will make up the lyrics on the spot. They are just a bag of God-given talent.

Anyway, I’m really glad they chose “Don’t Be A Bitch” because I felt it was so fitting for the loud, cackling chick who was being rude. She kept claiming that the boots she saw below the projection screen were Jackson’s. The girl in front of my who could see below the projectin screen politely informed her that it was the lead singer of Bleeding Horse Express so that she wasn’t moded. However, she didn’t believe her so all night, she kept claiming that it was Jackson. Her cackling in my ear was horrible.Luckily, my ears were already blown so it didn’t matter. She would reach her arm over & flick the hair of the girl in front of me. So, I’m really glad someone gave that title for the improv song. It was the theme of the night. Thank you, whoever you are.

Oh Nothing, Just Our PMSTA Trailer & Stuff

I am so proud to announce that the trailer for our October show is now live! I had so much fun working on it that it inspired me to want to do more in film. The director of the film, Matthew Abaya of I Don’t Care Productions, is also going to be doing a feature length film called “Vampariah” and he asked me to help him with casting. I can honestly say I was ecstatic! Besides the screenwriter, casting was also one of my dream roles to take on when it comes to making a film.

I’m excited to begin holding auditions and getting through this process, more than excited. So excited, I went out and bought a book called “Producing & Directing the Short Film & Video” to catch me up on all I need to know. There is a 4th edition to this book but this one was 40% off and mama can’t pass up a bargain like that. Let’s just see what I’m going to learn. I hate when I read and nothing has entered my mind because I’m drumming up a to-do list in my head. Am I the only one that happens to? Anyway, before I go off on a tangent, check out our promo below:

In Search of Blah, Blah, Blog

Here’s something you may not know about WordPress. They tell you the search terms that people have typed in to get to your page. At times, I have found some terms to be quite amusing. Therefore, I’ve decided to share a few of the recent ones. I’ll probably do this from time to time if I have collected enough. Some of them caused my WTF face to emerge.

Will Friedle vs. Larry Kenney

Just came across an article on behindthevoiceactors.com and saw that they compared Larry Kenney’s Lion-O to Will Friedle’s Lion-O. It’s pretty obvious that the author prefers Larry over Will, which is fine, but I have to say that I much prefer Will over Larry. Even if I didn’t love Will so much, I’d still vote for him because I actually love that he puts more effort into his Ho call. However, at the same time, is there really a comparison?

Back in the 80’s, the cartoons were so cheesy. I almost felt like I was watching one of those horribly dubbed Asian movies where American “actors” would voice over their english, or one of those violent video games they have at the arcade where the main character is talking to his comrades with an unneccessarily overexaggerated fervor. Of course, that was the 80’s and it was completely acceptable back then. Today, I’m not so sure it would fly. Plus, Will has had training in actual acting and Larry’s background is more radio personalities & voiceovers so perhaps that’s where Will is one up on Larry in the acting department? Of course one could argue that given Larry’s background in voiceovers, that he, in fact, has one up on Will.

In the end, it doesn’t matter. To each their own. I’m not going to debate over it because it’s a known fact that I FUCKIN. LOVE. WILL. You can’t change my mind. There will always be people who will love Larry for specific reasons and Will for specific reasons and it’s all good. Anyway, you can judge for yourself here. Oh, and be sure to check out the poll on the right. ;0)

Complaints & Collaborations

I’m supposed to be off book by Wednesday. It’s been awhile since I’ve had to memorize any lines. I hate this. I asked Jason Marsden on Twitter for tips and he said “Read out loud 3 times, in a monotone (do not perform). Rinse, lather, repeat.” Haha!! I love him. He’s such an awesome person. I will try his tip. I actually have only read it aloud once during rehearsal. Man, this would be so much easier if I was the one who wrote it. The short play I’m in is called “Circadian Suites” by Shannon Lee Pacaoan. The one I wrote called “Strength” is being performed by Annie Wang from Bindlestiff Studio’s 2009 Stories High show. It will be for the PMSTA show in October. Instead of memorizing, I should be writing. To be honest, I haven’t really been able to complete my screenplay. I want to finish it before 11/1/11. I was thinking of submitting it for admission to CSU Northridge. However, I refuse to submit it until I am happy with it. I don’t know if I ever will be happy with it seeing as I am my own worst critic but I have to move on regardless.

Anyway, I’m in the process of gathering a crew to start a new Youtube channel. We want to make comedic films, possibly all female. There will probably be guys here & there every once in awhile. I know, soooo original, right? But my friends & I are motivated & we love getting creative so why not? So far, we’ve got ideas, writers, directors, equipment, and resources. Now we just need to have meetings and just get it started. Oooh, just writing about this in public is getting me excited about it. I hope we actually go through with it. It won’t be easy if I move to LA but then again, life is always tentative so I really don’t know what’s in store for me yet. Let’s just call it a target; a hit or miss. If things pan out, we can do this no matter where we all are.

Oh yeah, and last night, my brother approached me about doing a children’s book together. He had an idea to create a fantasy world and turn it into a children’s book but he wants me to create the story and our cousin Viking to do the illustrations. Writing a children’s book sounds easy but I know it’s hard. It will definitely have to be put on the back burner for now. I have other priorities to pursue…like updating my resumé. Mama is eyeing a new job.

Happy Birthday, Will Friedle!

It’s Will’s 35th birthday today! I’ve decided that in addition to going to work & memorizing lines & fighting my traffic ticket in court today, I would celebrate his birthday by drawing some main characters he had voiced & listening to “He’s So Fine” by The Chiffons on repeat. Then I’m going to watch my favorite episode of Boy Meets World, which is What A Drag where he dresses up as a damn hot lady. I might even buy some birthday fruit basket cake from Schubert’s and eat it too. Yum.

I really enjoyed drawing these characters but it took me 17 hours and that’s a lot of time to be doodling. I may not be a real sketch artist but it was fun to try. I really hated coloring it though. Looks like it was done by a 12-yr-old. This was my first time coloring anything this large and in colored pencils. I was going to leave it in black & white but my cousin, who’s an aspiring anime artist, told me things always look better in color. Damn him for saying that. Damn him a lot because I totally ruined some parts that could have been avoided. Oh well, life isn’t perfect and neither is my coloring inside the lines. Anyway, happy birthday Will!! If you ever read this, I just want to say hi, how are you?

Whitewater Rafting

Went whitewater rafting at Mariah Wilderness Expeditions in the South Fork American River over the weekend. It’s not a normal activity I would usually participate in but I didn’t care if I lived or died as long as I can say I did it. Honestly, it was so much fun!! I wanted to do it everyday! It was like being on my favorite Great America ride, Rip Roaring Rapids, for 4 hours and no line. The only down side would be my sunburn. See, I had this bright idea to pull my sleeves a little higher so that I wouldn’t get a farmer’s tan. Fortunately for me, I left it up too long and by nightfall, my shoulders were red. Awesome sauce. I didn’t think I would have so much fun but I can honestly say I had a blast! Can’t wait to do it again!
