“Consequences”

I’m not sure if I ever mentioned this but my friends and I started an all-female comedy troupe back in 2011. Granted, we didn’t do anything until 2012 but the idea for the troupe originally began in 2011. Our name is Granny Cart Gangstas. Currently, we are on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram and Tumblr. We just finished hosting a show on March 8, 2014 in honor of International Women’s Day. It was called “Bad Ass B!tches” and was held at Bindlestiff Studio.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun it is when we get together and create. We all have a similar sense of humor so it’s easy for our minds to connect and come up with ideas for sketches, films, music, etc. Of course we also have our differences and sometimes, our ideas will clash but that’s where we collectively make decisions that we all eventually agree on.

Our latest video is a 90s music video parody inspired by Xscape’s “Understanding” video with original lyrics written by Andrea Almario. You can check it out here.

My favorite part of working on this video was how we all had these ridiculous ideas and the filmmakers who helped us film the video (Revelcade Entertainment, Project W Production, Torrid Productions & I Don’t Care Productions) trusted our decisions no matter what they were. We are planning on doing another show sometime this year so look out for information on our Facebook page!

Birth of a Troupe

Six years ago, my friend Aureen and I talked about how great it would be to start our own comedy troupe. I had mentioned to her about how much I loved sketch comedy and Kids in the Hall. She completely understood and shared my views. We discussed pulling together some of our friends and creating this group someday and we could have our own shows and tour. Ah, what a fantasy that was.

Fast forward 5 years, our networks grew bigger, our resources got richer, and our creativity became stronger. Due to our curiosity of all things creative, we began dipping our hands in film making and fell in love. In 2011, we approached 3 of our friends to help us build a troupe and make comedic videos. We called ourselves “Granny Cart Gangstas.” Unfortunately, the 5 of us became so busy that we allowed our ideas to remain on paper, undeveloped and never fully realized. By May of 2012, Aureen & I had a moment to talk during a film shoot. We were discussing with another friend, Roczane, about wanting to have an all female comedy troupe. And thus began a snowball of activity into giving the troupe a life. Aureen & I began pulling together all the ingredients we needed to have a successful troupe to do our film making and eventually culminate into doing live shows in theaters. A month later, we had our troupe. Six months later, we completed our first project, a music video parody of Beyonce’s “Run the World.”

Enjoy!

Ben Savage is still funny

Check out this video he did on Youtube.

Watsky Behind the scenes with Ben Savage

My favorite moments from the actual video are 4:53 – 4:56 and 5:48. Hilarious! I have to admit, I’m kind of excited to see him again onscreen. He is dearly missed. Now I gotta figure out who this Camron guy is. Hmm…

Here’s something you may not know about WordPress. They tell you the search terms that people have typed in to get to your page. At times, I have found some terms to be quite amusing. Therefore, I’ve decided to share a few of the recent ones. I’ll probably do this from time to time if I have collected enough. Some of them caused my WTF face to emerge.

I Love Boy Meets World

For some reason, I can’t stop watching this.

My favorite Eric Matthews moments:

1:33 “Fe-he-he-heeny! OW!! Wa-w-w-wa-what-what?!! Oww!!”
2:49 “distinguished like a flickering flame…OWWww, that hot.”
4:52 Eric stuffs a slice of pizza in his mouth
9:49 “So in conclusion, watches, chocolate, cheese…ladies & gentleman, we give you, the Swiss.”

It’s not enough for me to just show you how funny these moments are but to say the least, Will Friedle delivers every line, every movement, every ad lib PERFECTLY. He’s so in tune with his character, I’m almost convinced that they could possibly be one and the same. His comedic timing is of utmost precision. I wish he did not retire from onscreen work. At the least, I would LOVE to see him at the SF Sketchfest. He would have brought the house down! Alas, I have little hope that I will ever be able to see Will on my television once again. If only he were on Twitter, Facebook, or some kind of social network out there, I would start a campaign to urge him back onscreen & let him know he is loved. I’m sure he has some sort of following that is missing the laughter he brought us so many years ago. Thank you Will, for making so many of us smile, then and especially now. We miss you.
