From 2014 To 2015

I have to say, 2014 was quite a year. I’m so happy with all the things that happened and I’m looking forward to what 2015 will bring. For the past 4 years, my New Year’s resolution was the same: “I want to meet Will Friedle…and lose weight, blah blah blah.” Now that I finally accomplished that goal, I work on the blah blah blah.

Best Things about 2014:

Co-produced two shows that I am very proud of:
Love Edition: Love Bytes

PCCN (Pilipino Counter Cultural Night)
PCCN

Got interviewed by SF Bay Guardian

Granny Cart Gangstas in SF Bay Guardian

Made a 90s R&B music video parody, inspired by Xscape’s “Understanding” video

Invited by Ben Savage to catch a closed taping of Girl Meets World
GMW Pass

Hung out with Jason Marsden and his friends after his Locker 13 film premiere at a bar
Jason Marsden

Had the best time filming The Love Edition web series, “Bender/Breaker” (Annotations must be turned on)

Finally got to meet my dream husband, Will Friedle
Will Friedle meets Miss Ava

Completed my first short film, Accident and having Jason Marsden tell me he thought it was “really well done” was icing on the cake

Moved into my own place which means I get to buy my own groceries
Farmer's Market Haul

Finally got my song from my favorite band, Finish Ticket! It took a whole year but you can’t rush creativity. The final result is perfect! I’ve included a clip of it on my site. I recently saw them perform at the legendary Fillmore and they covered Weezer and finally performed one of my favorite songs of theirs, Killing Me!

Yes, 2014 was wonderful but life moves forward and so must I. There are soooo….many things I want to do but take baby steps, I shall. Turn my dreams into goals, I will. Not sure why I’m speaking like Yoda but I felt it necessary.

So for 2015, I have little goals I want to achieve and some bigger goals I want to reach for. I say goals instead of dreams because I find that when you turn your dreams into goals, you are more likely to achieve them. Essentially, the word “dream” almost subliminally tells you that it’s not real, that it’s just a fantasy. However, the word “goal” implies a direction, a motivational force so to speak. With that said, my goals for 2015 include the following:

1. Be more girly – I want to buy more dresses and dress more like a girl and yet still be comfortable, but I don’t want to pull a George Costanza and wear sweatpants all day. I want people to know I will NOT give up!

2. Eat vegetables every day – My friend once told me that when you eat, you’re either fighting disease or feeding it. Yes, she obviously cannot accept my incessant love for my self-made ice cream tours in every city but I see her point and will take it into consideration. Are avocados considered a vegetable? It’s green.

3. Cut your portions and consume less meat – I want to eat like a normal person and eat the portion size they eat. Problem is, my mother put me on a diet when I was 12 and I have been dieting ever since. I haven’t the slightest clue what a normal portion is! America has a problem with portion distortion and I’m wallowing in the thick of it all. I also want to eat less meat and lose some weight. I mean, if Will Friedle can do it, so can I.

4. Cut my hair every 4 months – They say that your hair changes every 7 years. I don’t know how true that is but I’ve always felt like my hair grows too slowly so I never cut it. However, when I finally did cut it 4 months ago, I noticed that my hair has grown a lot faster since then so maybe I will spend that $65 and get that amazing haircut I love and just enjoy seeing it grow.

5. Drink more water – I am guilty of not drinking much water unless I have access to it easily but the adult female body is about 55% water on average and I am going to keep drinking until that 55% reaches 75% and my pee is no longer the slightest bit yellow. That’s how I tell when I’m dehydrated. When your pee looks like Mountain Dew, you’d better go get yourself some Aquafina because chances are, you’re probably dying.

6. Produce at least one show this year, two if I have time – So far, I have two shows I am involved in this year. One is a feature length play and the other is a Women’s show for Women’s History Month. I’m excited about both shows because A) I really love the story of the feature length play and B) I really love the theme of the Women show, which is also going to be a comedy show and the theme I came up with is “No Filter.” What do I mean by that? Well, I just wanna explore, what would it be like if we lived in a world where we didn’t have to be polite to each other? What if you didn’t have to tell your friend that her baby was cute? What if she really does look fat in that outfit? Let’s explore this realm, shall we? I’m still debating on a title.

7. Go to Paris & Prague – Haven’t been to Paris since 2001 and I have never been to Prague. When I get to these countries, I am going to create my own food tour. I wanna eat French sushi, buy Huckleberry jam at Maison du Chocolat, and find me some drinking chocolate. I am not familiar with Prague at all so I’m just going to wing it. Who knows? Maybe I’ll fall in love, but first, I’ll have to fall out of love with Will Friedle and make myself available for love. I only have room in here for one at a time.

8. Pay off one of my student loans – I’m sooooo close to killing of one of them! Back in 2011, my student loans totalled around $40K and today, they are less than $10K. I think that’s pretty awesome. I can’t wait to pay all of it off. And when I do, it will be the same as when I paid off my car. I’m going to celebrate!

9. Take more risks – Life is short, life is a gift, life is supposed to be lived, enjoyed, cherished. I have spent wayyyyy too much time worrying about the negative. Perhaps if I thought more positively, my world would just start to get better and better. Oh who am I kidding, with all these amazing experiences I’ve had the past few years, I’d say I’ve already taken plenty of risks and have been able to accomplish a LOT! Keep it up though, keep it up.

10. Stop condemning my body and start celebrating it – Instead of complaining about what I don’t have, comparing myself to others and feeling bad about myself, I’m going to celebrate the things I do have, the parts I love about myself and all the things my body has allowed me to do. Walking, running, seeing, dancing, exercising, all these things should be celebrated.

I am making a promise to myself to live life as if every day is the last day. Take chances, make changes and enjoy everything life has to offer. All these positive adventures have far outweighed the negative experiences I’ve been through. I am so thankful for it all. This is my last post for 2014. It’s been a wild ride. Be safe, take care, and may 2015 be even better. Good night…

Girl Meets World Taping 4/10/14

The week before the 4/10/14 taping of Girl Meets World, I was a complete & nervous wreck. I anticipated receiving an email saying that the 4/10/14 taping had been cancelled. Who could blame me? This is my third attempt at trying to catch a taping. I had tickets for the pilot taping; that was cancelled. I lost out on money for flight, hotel and car rental. Since I had the flights, I had to go to LA anyway and I was actually staying less than a block away from where they were filming. My pain went beyond agony the day after the alleged taping when I found out that Will Friedle had visited the set. “I WAS LESS THAN A BLOCK AWAY!!” says the biggest Will Friedle fan in my world. That was the worst LA trip I had ever taken.

The second time I tried was for 2/11/14. Four days before the taping, I received an email telling me the taping was cancelled. Again. Flight, hotel and car rental lost. Again. I started to think it just wasn’t meant to be. I went to LA and hung around doing nothing. Little did I know, while doing nothing, I would end up at a closed taping of “Girl Meets Friendship”(?) as Ben’s guest(!) but it still wasn’t the same as a live taping. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, but I’ve never been to any sitcom taping before and wanted to experience it full on.

So this third try, imagine my anxiety levels as it builds up through my shaky fingers every time I checked my email. Although this time, I did not buy a flight, nor a hotel. I decided to drive. No loss in case of emergency. Again, who could blame me? 3rd time was the charm. No cancellation emails, no postponements, no schedule changes. It was a go! YES!!

When we got inside and the event began, they showed us what they called a “bonus episode” which was the pilot episode they taped. Yes, the one I had tickets for but couldn’t attend because it was cancelled. I didnt understand why they called it the bonus episode and not the pilot episode until I saw Teo Halm in it. He was the actor that was also supposed to be Riley’s big brother but his character got cut. They said the pilot has since been reshot(and includes Mr. Feeny I believe) and I realized that this version of the pilot episode will never be seen on television. I felt so honored that they allowed us to watch it. Hence, BONUS!

The episode was called “Girl Meets Flaws.” It’s an episode about bullying. Danny McNulty even came back all the way from Queens New York to film this episode. If you remember, he played Cory’s bully, Harvey Keiner, in Season 2 and I think a little of Season 3 in Boy Meets World. The only thing I didn’t understand was why no one seems to have a New York accent. Oh well, maybe they are all transplants.

So, they basically go back and forth between playbacks and live taping segments and it’s almost like we’re watching the whole episode in order. There was an MC and a DJ who was entertaining us during the whole taping. His name was Robert Koch and he was hilarious. If you’re curious what the MC looks like, you can see him in this Friends clip at about 1:18. He made the taping so fun to be at.

I’m not going to completely spoil it for anyone but I’ll tell you this: Girls Meets World is definitely this generation’s Boy Meets World. I don’t know how to express to you how beautiful and refreshing it was to see this show come to life. A little over a year ago, when GMW was first announced, I read every article there was to read about the upcoming project. Along with the articles came the inevitable criticism, criticism on a show that didn’t even exist yet! People were judging the show, saying they should just leave Boy Meets World alone. Umm, WHAT?

I admit, I wasn’t really sure how to feel about what the show would be like but I was still excited. Mainly because I was interested in seeing Boy Meets World faces back on the show, at least as a guest star, perhaps, if not as a regular cast member. It made no sense for the older generation who grew up with Boy Meets World and treasuring the show to treat Girl Meets World with such fierce hostility. If you had something so wonderful as a child, why not be happy for your child to possibly have something just as wonderful as yours?

Anyway, the bottom line is, I got to go to the taping finally and it was ingratiating. It reminded me of Boy Meets World in its existential being and I am really excited to see it premiere. I don’t care if Disney is the one who owns it, Michael Jacobs is the one producing it and I trust he will do a great job. In fact, I KNOW he is doing a great job, I saw it with my very own eyes. And I watched and heard him make changes to actions and some of the lines at the last minute to make the message come across stronger and it works.

I’m so thankful to have been able to catch a full on taping of Girl Meets World as my first sitcom taping. It’s definitely an unforgettable experience and I plan on catching another one in the future. I didn’t bother trying to take pictures or trying to get an autograph as the bars don’t make a nice photo and I don’t collect autographs anyway. At the end of the bonus episode playback, we saw and heard that familiar Michael Jacobs logo/jingle and everyone in the audience released a nostalgic awwww. I believe this release goes hand in hand with the mindset of “Thank you for coming back. Thank you for Girl Meets World.”

Return of the Will

Okay, I can’t ignore my blog anymore. Too much BMW stuff going on! And of course, I am always looking for Will Friedle, my favorite man in the entire universe. Here are some things I’ve collected over the week. :0)

Found an awesome Will Friedle Podcast Interview!!

Here is a video from Good Morning America of the Boy Meets World Cast Interview

I just want to say to the people who were saying things like, “Where’s his neck?” for Will’s picture he took when he visited the Girl Meets World taping, you are crazy. He’s shrugging his shoulders. He will always be beautiful to me. I’ve been missing this man for years and someday, I hope to meet him. I don’t even care if he’s walking around in Crocs and sweatpants. I love him. ^_^

Also saw this adorable trivia interview he did with Lily Nicksay.

That is all *SQUEEEEEE*

First of all, let me say that you, the fans of Boy Meets World, have been awesome. That word is often used incorrectly by people, including myself, on a daily basis but you have truly been awe inspiring. You, yes, even YOU, are the reason that Girl Meets World WILL BE MADE. J

I do not know how many BMW cast members will be returning for GMW, or how often they may appear if and/or when they do appear. I am going to do my best to not speak for others with this open post. But because I have known Michael Jacobs, Ben Savage, Rider Strong, Will Friedle, and Bill Daniels for 19 years, I know we share many of the same feelings regarding the 7 wonderful years we spent making BMW. Those years were among the most warm, hilarious, insightful, educational years of my life and I wouldn’t trade them for the world. Another thing I wouldn’t trade for anything is the integrity and the heart with which BMW was made. I promise with the entirety of my heart that we will make GMW with the same honesty, innocence, and intelligence that you learned to expect from BMW.

I say this because making the decision to do the show involved more conversations than you can possible imagine. These conversations were with the same people I mentioned above because they were all instrumental in creating and maintaining the heart of BMW. The first comment out of every person’s mouth was, “Let’s only do it if we think we can create something as special as we did with BMW.” When the news leaked that GMW was in the making, literally days after I first heard about the project myself, Michael Jacobs and I had a conversation and we talked about how we were both so blown away by the reactions from all of you. We felt honored. We felt nostalgic. We felt touched by the excitement in your comments, tweets, Tumblr, and Facebook posts. But most of all, we felt inspired. We felt inspired to bring these characters back to life and to tell you more of their stories. Michael said to me, “Danielle, when I read what people say BMW meant to them it makes me so very proud of all of us. I think it is important for us, for as long as we are fortunate enough to have this opportunity to do GMW, that we all look each other in the eyes every so often and make sure we know we have something of value to offer the audience.” I think we have that with GMW.

I say that so that I can say this: GMW is a new show. It isn’t BMW brought back to life but in current day. It will have familiar faces, familiar themes, and familiar messages. It will also have new faces, new themes, and new messages. BMW never spoke down to the audience and we are going to do our best to never do that with GMW. But please keep in mind that this there will be episode 1, of season 1, of a brand new show. We started at the same place with BMW but we evolved and we evolved quickly. For those of you who knew and loved BMW, please allow this show to evolve as well. Stick with us. Give us a chance.

In the meantime, a sincere thank you to every one of you for all of your tweets (I read them all, every day. It killed me not to be able to talk about it!), even those of you who asked us not to do it. There were only a few of you but I know why you don’t want GMW to happen and I appreciate that BMW meant enough to you that you don’t want to see its legacy tarnished. I can assure you, we don’t want that either. Your love, dedication, and appreciation means more to us than you could ever know and it will be the driving force behind our passion to make the best show we can possibly make. Thank you for giving us the chance to do it again.

Love,

Danielle

Girl Meets World: Hmm…Okay.

Disney is making a sequel to Boy Meets World called Girl Meets World. It was announced last weekend. After hearing the news, I couldn’t decided. I’ve been wavering back and forth over this topic this whole week. I don’t know why. It’s not even that important. I’ve been reading & watching articles, tweets, comments, rants, blogs, vlogs, video responses, and episodes of Boy Meets World that ended up making me cry like a baby. I was looking for something to influence my opinion and help me get out of this 50/50 zone that I was so conflicted over for some unknown reason. So finally, after being overwhelmed with all the positive vs. negative words I’ve seen, read or heard, I’ve come to a conclusion and that conclusion is this: okay.

It will be okay. It will be okay that Disney wants to do a sequel to Boy Meets World because there can be nothing but good that will come out of it for Boy Meets World. First of all, BMW is done, finished, in the past, a memory, a retro vintage television show that taught me life lessons and made Fridays my favorite day to this day. As a loyal viewer of Boy Meets World, I am honored that one of my favorite shows was remembered and chosen to get a sequel. A lot of the nay-sayers have voiced their rants that “Girl Meets World” will ruin their childhood and drag Boy Meets World through the ground. They pretty much say that Boy Meets World cannot be touched because it is already imperfectly perfect and does not need to be changed. And then, there are those who are overcome with excitement and & anticipation, like being given a big wrapped present and you have all these expectations and hopes for what could be inside.

Some opinions…

Sigh…well, I have to admit, I was leaning more towards the “Don’t do it, Disney!” side but I took a step back and thought about all the ways I could see this so okay, here goes my final opinion. I think the nay-sayers should concede, withdraw & support. I think that there are only two outcomes here for us 90s kids who include BMW as a part of our childhood world: 1) If Girl Meets World succeeds, great! I’d be so proud of Michael Jacobs for having another successful show. Translation: Nothing really to do with Boy Meets World, they are two separate shows. They just happen to have the same creator. The other outcome is 2) If Girl Meets World bombs, it really has zero negative effect on Boy Meets World because again, they are two separate shows. If GMW fails, we will just say “Boy Meets World” was better, giving our childhood a boost in cool factor. Think of all the shows that didn’t get revamped, remade or even remembered. They’re pretty much stored up in a locked up trunk of the sitcom library that sits in all of our 90s brains, keys lost and never found. We are lucky to possess the nostalgic memory of BMW and I proudly support Michael Jacobs in creating a new one for the new generation that awaits to possess such a memory of their own.

Honestly, one show really doesn’t have anything to do with the other. They could have marketed this as a completely new show and not mention BMW at all but I feel like they are giving BMW a shoutout, a nod, a well-deserved notable form of recognition if you must. So for me, that’s okay. In the world of creativity, you have to take risks. Like Austin Kleon says, “Steal like an artist.” In this case, perhaps Disney is only borrowing, but eventually, we will get it back and in the same condition, you will see.

My favorite episode is……
Eric Hollywood. If you haven’t seen it, the payoff is in the end. I love that broken wall.

Okay, this one too. The ironic part is that they said Eric made an ugly woman. HA!

Ben Savage is still funny

Check out this video he did on Youtube.

My favorite moments from the actual video are 4:53 – 4:56 and 5:48. Hilarious! I have to admit, I’m kind of excited to see him again onscreen. He is dearly missed. Now I gotta figure out who this Camron guy is. Hmm…

Girl Meets World?

Disney Channel Eyes Boy Meets World Sequel Series

I’m not sure how I feel about this, Disney, but let me just say this. When Boy Meets World came out back in 1993, it was a different time. Shows were more family-oriented and wholesome. We were in a whirlwind of campy family shows like Home Improvement, Full House, Step By Step, Roseanne, Just the Ten of Us, Growing Pains, I can go on. Today, most of popular television consists of reality TV shows that romanticize partying in skimpy clothing, teen pregnancy, the zombie apocalypse, and body obsession. While these types of dramatic issues are not what I would want my child to deal with, I understand that there is a need for a show with a character they can relate to and look up to.

We learned life lessons through Cory Matthews, his family and friends. His world was built by making mistakes, building memories, and having regrets. I was a bit older so my experiences related more towards Eric Matthews, a character I most looked forward to seeing every Friday night on TGIF. (Oh Will, wherefore art thou, my love?) All I ask is that we not have Girl Meets World result in a complete mimic of Boy Meets World because it just wouldn’t work. Audiences are a different generation today.

If this new show fails, somehow I fear that it will taint the legacy that Boy Meets World has left behind which has a fond impression on me. On the up side, I have to admit, a part of me was excited that the world had not forgotten dear little Cory Matthews. It’s been 12 years since Boy Meets World went off the air. While some shows are easily forgotten as a memory tucked so deep in the depths of our minds that they are never mentioned again (Hey Dude, Too Close for Comfort, Benson, etc), Boy Meets World has developed a cult following, a new audience, and has been revived with a 2nd life by today’s generation through its syndication on ABC Family. Not to mention, there is a tight-knit BMW GIF community that revolves around Boy Meets World. Were you aware of that?

One good thing I’ve come to discover is that the project will be done by Michael Jacobs, the original creator of Boy Meets World. Let us all breathe a sigh of relief. To Michael, all I have to say “Please allow your voice to be heard and don’t let Disney corporates bully you into making their version of your vision.” As torn as I am about this new project, I would still watch it today, even as an adult. And of course, I’d be hoping to catch that glimpse of uncle Eric popping in every now and then, doing a Feeny call at the most random moment.

In the meantime, let’s enjoy this fun video of Ben the Savagest…

4:53 – 5:00 is awesome sauce.

B-day Marathon

For my birthday this year, I wanted to do two things: see Michael Ian Black perform live, and have a Boy Meets World marathon with my BFFs. I did get to see Michael Ian Black perform a Viva Variety reunion at SF SKetchfest on 1/29/11 and it was fabulous. I also got to see Kerri Kenney, Ben Garant, and Thomas Lennon in person, what an absolute dream. I had such a great time!

Since we had President’s Day, I decided to do the Boy Meets World marathon this weekend and my BFF was completely down for it even though I was sick. We didn’t start it until late Sunday evening and began with Season 4. I didn’t know if we would make it to Season 7 but we tried our best. In the end, we only got through Season 4 & just 2 episodes short of Season 5. I laughed, I cried, I gasped, I screamed-well, I didn’t REALLY scream. Eric Matthews screamed but I’m just going through the motions with him. :0)

To be honest, I don’t know why I ever stopped watching the show. I guess it was because I was growing up at the time along with Cory Matthews and Shawn Hunter and while I did indeed love Will Friedle with all my heart, I just did not want to stay home Friday nights watching television. Subsequently, I missed so many episodes that I now realize I wish I didn’t. So many valuable lessons, heartbreaks, good times, good television-no, it was GREAT television. Today, I don’t even watch TV anymore because all I see are drunk people causing fights, catty women throwing things at each other, boyfriends & girlfriends getting caught cheating, ridiculous competitions, etc. Boy Meets World didn’t need all the stupid fights, drama, and competitions to get kids to watch their show. Kids watched it on their own and they learned oh so much. The show dealt with so many issues that could prepare a kid for an adult life and it was so beautiful watching Cory Matthews, Shawn Hunter and Topanga Lawrence grow up before our eyes on TV. The best feeling was when Cory & Topanga got back together, when Eric stood up for Cory, when Shawn realized he wanted to be with Angela, and when Eric got accepted to Pennbrook.

It was a great weekend. It was like I was having my own version of a slumber party with Will Friedle. Sigh…a girl can dream, can’t she? Anyway, here are some of my favorite screencaps.

Cory losing a bet to Shawn

Eric looking smart in front of a laptop

Shawn & Cory bromance

Shawn looking hot as a woman for the sake of good journalism

Eric and his pantene hair

And lastly, my favorite: Angry Eric, sooooo hot.

Happy Birthday to me!

Boy Meets World – Season 5 Release!!

Maybe this is a little bit dorky but I’m so excited to hear that Lionsgate is releasing Boy Meets World – Season 5 on May 3rd!!! Ohhh…who am I kidding, I’m not embarrassed to be excited, I’m proud! I didn’t think it would happen but it is! Extras haven’t been announced but I sure wish some kind of commentary would be included, or even interviews or bloopers! Either way, I’m happy about it and I can’t wait to see Will Friedle’s face on TV again! I’m also excited to see Will’s favorite episode, “The Witches of Pennbrook”. I read it somewhere that he said that was his favorite episode to tape. And Candace Cameron guest stars in it! Another episode I want to see is “And Then There Was Shawn,” the Halloween episode where Will’s then-girlfriend Jennifer Love Hewitt guest stars as well!

Check out the cover art!
